Sugary Beginnings

Born and raised by very hard working parents who gave my sisters and I all that they could afford and what they never had.  As far as I can remember, my dad has always been passionate about food…a major foodie.  His passion and determination to try new and different foods gave us the opportunity to experience many different cultures at a very young age.  On the other hand my mum is not so adventurous when it comes to eating new and different foods.  However, her cooking skills in the kitchen are second to none.  Her love for her family was always evident in the delicious meals she made every night for her family, even after a long day at work.

One day after school, instead of doing homework I decided to try something different, I found one of mum’s chinglish (chinese/english) bilingual cook books and after much debating (with myself) I picked the butter cookies.  Surprisingly they turned out quite well and were edible!  My family ate them and I remember watching my dad turn to me, smile and tell me they were a bit dry but delicious and he kept eating them.  Maybe he was just hungry but to this day, my parents are my most trusted and respected critics…there is no holding back at home, they tell it how it is!  This is where my love and addiction for baking started.  I really have to thank my parents…in hindsight I don’t think there are many parents out there that would let their 8 year old child operate a gas oven unsupervised.

Whether it was seeing the empty cookie jar or the smiles on my family’s faces, it was at that point I knew that sugar (sucre) could be made into beautiful things that are loved by people.  Since that first batch of cookies, my baking repertoire has increased tremendously and I owe it all to my family and friends.  So, I have to thank my family and friends for giving me the opportunity to do what I love and trusting me with creating and making beautiful items for their special days.

You never know what life may bring you, but what I do know is that I am meant to create delicious cakes and desserts…i’m living my sweet sweet dream!

This is my journey experiencing all things sweet and beautiful…

Bon Appetit
